Defect Detection Limitations Using CT Scanning for Additive Components

TRX Webinar Series Archive

We will look at CT scanning from the standpoint of its limitations and factors that are limiting to obtaining quality data.  Typical Additive Manufacturing defects such as build shift, loose powder and other defects will be discussed as it relates to what is possible to quantify with a CT scan.  The influence of material density, multi-material assemblies, part geometry, size and variable wall thickness effects will be discussed.  Dimensional measurement of defects and their practical limitations in CT will be reviewed. This information will also be applicable to other non-additive work.
