Mark Benedict, Ph.D.
Dr. Mark D. Benedict is a computational materials scientist and program manager in the Propulsion, Structures & Industrial Technologies Branch, Manufacturing Technology Division, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio in the area of Additive Manufacturing (AM) and Verification & Validation (V&V) of ICME models. Dr. Benedict conducts and directs research in the areas of metals and plastic additive manufacturing and is a recognized expert on additive manufacturing process modeling and machine development.
He is the America Makes Chief Technology Advisor and the AFRL AM IPT Lead. He is currently a research active, program manager for several large and novel Data Science and AM programs in the areas of additive manufacturing variability assessment, analytics driven sustainment, and CT inspection of complex AM artifacts. Recently as part of his role as V&V lead for the Integrated Computational Materials Science and Engineering IPT, he has helped to define directorate wide requirements for data management planning. Additionally, he is working with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers to find a new committee that will create the first V&V standards for Advance Manufacturing process modeling.
