Rapid Innovation Call – January 2021
America Makes announces two new Rapid Innovation Calls (RICs) worth $100K in total funding ($50,000 per topic).

Topic 1: Searchable Materials Database
For this Member Driven RIC, the technical focus is the development of a searchable and scalable AM materials database capable of compiling mechanical/physical property data. The goal is to improve data management and analytics. The database will equip the AM design community with an efficient interface to access and compare America Makes project material datasets and pedigree information. There is no cost share requirement for this project call.
Topic 2: MPM Reference Material
For this Government Driven RIC, the technical focus was provided by the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST) to continue to build upon previous efforts of developing and demonstrating reference materials necessary for the characterization and validation of process monitoring instrumentation widely used in commercial metal AM systems. The goal is develop, demonstrate, and document a method to achieve repeatable and reliable protocols to quantitatively assess melt pool monitoring instrumentation calibration and accuracy utilizing high purity metals as a reference material. This call has a cost share requirement of 25 %.

Yes, teams may submit more than one Project Proposal.
Questions should be emailed to ric@americamakes.us. Questions will be posted to the America Makes website according to the schedule. Questions asked AFTER the scheduled Q&A session will NOT be addressed.
Yes, but only if they are members by 2/2/2021. The approval process for foreign-owned entities can take up to 4 weeks to complete, so non-members would not have sufficient time to apply and be approved prior to this 2/2/2021 deadline.
Federal dollars cannot be spent outside of the United States. It is the Lead / team’s responsibility to ensure compliance with all applicable export control laws and regulations.
Yes. The proposals will only be reviewed by the evaluation team and each team member signs a confidentiality agreement.
The owning organization should list anything that they are leveraging that is not going to be made available to the membership at the completion of the project. This could be a patent number or a description of the background IP that is being leveraged.
The IP is owned by the organization that developed the IP, however that IP is subject to the rules outlined in the membership agreement.
No, as of now we just want to be able to upload data sets and other project information manually.
