New York, September 27, 2021: America Makes and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) announced today the release of a report of their July 13th virtual event on feedstock/precursor materials for additive manufacturing hosted by the America Makes and ANSI Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC).

The meeting brought together subject matter experts from standards developing organizations (SDOs), industry, and government for a discussion designed to help further develop and refine the AMSC Standardization Roadmap for Additive Manufacturing, last published in June 2018. The morning session included presentations on recent standardization activity. The afternoon featured a panel discussion on the attributes of additive manufacturing feedstock materials that lend themselves to standardization, specifically, standardization needs related to metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites.

The AMSC is a cross-sector coordinating body whose purpose is to accelerate the development of industry-wide additive manufacturing standards and specifications consistent with stakeholder needs. The AMSC roadmap describes the current standardization landscape for additive manufacturing and the desired future landscape. The meeting was part of the AMSC’s ongoing efforts to track progress by SDOs and others to address the gaps identified in the roadmap. The goal is to drive coordinated standards development activity that will help to grow the additive manufacturing industry.
