Position Summary

As the Content Coordinator, you will be a valued and trusted member of the NCDMM and America Makes communications team, reporting to the Communications Manager. You will help with the development of written and visual content to shape the public perception of the Institute, specifically being responsible for drafting and editing thought leadership articles/editorials, improve our storytelling capabilities, layout and design of marketing materials and larger reports, as well as working closely with the team to update content as needed and maintain our brand guide.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative and creative team player with a passion for creativity, communication, and engagement. You bring demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining graphical content, as well as copywriting and editing of technical content. The candidate has strong attention to detail and is task-oriented with the ability to follow up and follow through. This role requires the team member to think creatively and execute tasks operationally.

Essential Functions

  • Work with the larger America Makes team to develop content calendars that align with trade publication timelines, as well as the organization’s marketing goals.
  • Write and edit content for a variety of internal and external channels, including thought leadership articles/editorials for trade magazines, technical reports, one-pagers, etc. Assist with email marketing campaigns as needed.
  • Research and source information for content, such as data, quotes, and images to create engaging narrative- and visual-based content.
  • Coordinate and improve the success story process, including the creation of impactful success stories for long-term projects and initiatives.
  • Improve the storytelling capabilities of the Institute, including facilitating interviews and other information-gathering processes to identify storylines, and thought leadership content.
  • Create visual-based content, including infographics, and design engaging trade show booth graphics while ensuring consistency of brand and style guide.
  • Collaborate with writers and editors to ensure that content is clear, concise, and error-free.
  • Stay up to date on the latest trends in content marketing to drive audience focus and impactful messaging.
  • Work closely with the Communications and larger America Makes team to develop communications strategies that help advance the mission of the Institute.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • You have a bachelor’s degree (communications/marketing/journalism / technical writing focused preferred) and 10+ years of experience in a communication-centric position.
  • You understand how to generate engaging content and know your way around strategic marketing, including brand guides, storytelling, and audience engagement.
  • You can take technical language and develop content that can be appealing to a broad, non-technical audience.
  • You have demonstrated the ability to manage and develop engaging content for diverse channels, including email blasts, websites, trade magazines, and social media.
  • You bring experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and consider yourself competent with visual design. You also have a firm grasp of print processes.
  • You have a knowledge of AP style.

  • You are “scrappy” and have intrinsic motivation to get stuff done.
  • Occasional travel (less than 25% of the time) is expected to capture content and insights from events, conferences, and programs/roundtables.
