Y14.46 – 2017 is a Draft Standard that covers definitions of terms and features unique to additive manufacturing (AM) technologies with recommendations for their uniform specification in product definition data sets and in related documents. The Draft Standard extends to capturing relevant AM detail from design, manufacturing, and quality engineering.
This new draft standard is an extension of the widely used ASME Y14.5 standard which, for years, has provided engineers with the fundamental language for drafting and designing products and systems.
Y14.46 is intended to support engineers engaged in Additive Manufacturing – including mechanical design, drafting, and quality assurance & control personnel – especially those involved in extended, global supply chains.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) will host a complimentary webinar on Y14.46: A New GD&T Draft Standard for Additive Manufacturing Design Consistency |January 10, 2018; 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM (ET)
Why Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is recommended for use in additive manufacturing and how is it differs from traditional 2D.
