America Makes Hosts the Knowledge Bar within AMT’s New Additive ETC at IMTS 2018

September 05, 2018 | Categories: America Makes News

Youngstown, Ohio — September 5, 2018. America Makes proudly announces it will host a “Knowledge Bar” as part of a new Emerging Technology Center (ETC) pavilion at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) 2018, managed by AMT—The Association For Manufacturing Technology, on September 10 – 15 at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. The Additive ETC pavilion will be shared by both America Makes and its Gold-level member, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

“On behalf of all of us at America Makes, we want to thank AMT for inviting us to collaborate with them in such a prominent way as the host of the Knowledge Bar within the newly featured Additive ETC at this year’s IMTS,” said America Makes Executive Director Rob Gorham. “Within the Additive ETC, the Knowledge Bar will serve as a centralized hub of activity in which IMTS attendees will learn more about the mission and work of America Makes and hear about the latest developments and innovations from our membership community. I am very excited for IMTS 2018 to get underway as the scope of manufacturing represented is unparalleled.”

The Additive ETC pavilion is located in the McCormick West Building, Level 3 & Annex, Booth #431609. AMT’s move to create and sponsor an ETC at IMTS dedicated specifically to additive manufacturing (AM) is a direct reflection of the expansion of additive technologies into all markets, becoming a valuable component of every manufacturing facility, small and large. According to AMT, the number of AM-related exhibitors showcased in the Additive ETC is nearly triple as compared to those IMTS 2016 exhibitors.

“For the last six years, America Makes has worked tirelessly to help increase domestic manufacturing competitiveness by accelerating the adoption of AM technologies in the U.S.,” added Mr. Gorham. “It is exciting to see additive’s industry growth and market potential gaining more and more traction. America Makes will continue to perform our roles as a convener of AM stakeholders, a coordinator of technical and workforce data, and a catalyzer of collaborative, high-impact research projects. For IMTS 2018 attendees, they can expect us to apply these roles to our approach of the management of the activities at the Knowledge Bar.”

Throughout IMTS 2018, visitors to the Knowledge Bar will learn about some of America Makes’ key contributions to advancing AM technologies, including the:

  • Development of the Technology and Workforce & Education Roadmaps
  • Creation of the America Makes Digital Storefront, an online platform for members to exchange information
  • Establishment of industry-wide AM standards and specifications with the release of the Standardization Roadmap for Additive Manufacturing (Version 2.0), completed in partnership with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

The Knowledge Bar will also showcase more than 20 America Makes members, including leading AM organizations that are making some exciting and innovative AM breakthroughs. They will make brief, yet highly impactful presentations and hold Q&A sessions for direct engagement with IMTS attendees. Presentations will commence each day on the half-hour, beginning at 9:30 a.m. and concluding at 4:00 p.m. The complete list of presenters is as follows:
