Youngstown, Ohio — October 24, 2013. America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, driven by the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM), proudly served as host for the October meeting of the ASM International (formerly known as the American Society of Metals), Warren, Ohio chapter on Thursday, October 17th. ASM is a new member in America Makes, having joined in August 2013.

America Makes was honored to host the local ASM chapter and better familiarize them with the work thatAmerica Makes is doing to innovate and accelerate additive manufacturing and 3DP technologies,” said Kevin Collier, America Makes Innovation Factory Manager.

As part of the business meeting, a discussion and tour of the America Makes Additive Manufacturing Innovation Factory took place. The tour consisted of Rapid Prototype Model product demonstrations, hands-on examination of these models, and a detailed explanation of the many additive manufacturing technologies that are currently in place.

During the event, many questions and ideas were brought forth about the various technologies that have been entrusted to the Institute by the America Makes member community, several of which speak directly to the interests of the ASM members in attendance at the meeting. As metallurgists, the group was especially excited about the three platforms that print directly in metal powder of varying types, including stainless steel, cobalt chrome, and Titanium 64.
