America Makes Honors its Roadmap Advisory Group with the America Makes Distinguished Collaborator Award

November 18, 2015 | Categories: America Makes News

Youngstown, Ohio — November 18, 2015. America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, driven by the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM), is pleased to announce today that it honored its Roadmap Advisory Group with the America Makes Distinguished Collaborator Award for their dedication and contributions to the development of the Institute’s Additive Manufacturing Technology Roadmap. This announcement came during the annual America Makes Program Review and Member Meeting held November 17 – 19, 2015, on the campus of the Institute’s Gold-level member, Youngstown State University.

The America Makes Additive Manufacturing Technology Roadmap features prominently in fulfilling the Institute’s mission to innovate and accelerate additive manufacturing to increase our nation’s global manufacturing competitiveness. Specifically, the Roadmap identifies measurable and meaningful challenges that, when met, promote inquiry, knowledge-sharing, and technical advancements across the industry.

To create this Roadmap, the America Makes Roadmap Advisory Group was charged with hosting and leading in-person workshops and activities where members engaged in a series of methodologies to generate and categorize industry needs. Working in teams, the Roadmap Advisory Group documented hundreds of needs statements and identified affinities among them that ultimately converged on a curated set of project concepts. Their efforts were instrumental in the successful identification by America Makes of concepts that are most suitable for public-private partnership projects, versus those that are better suited for industry to tackle.

“On behalf of all of us at America Makes, it is my honor to present the Distinguished Collaborator Award to our esteemed Roadmap Advisory Group,” said Ed Morris, America Makes Director and NCDMM Vice President. “Without their tireless efforts, the Technology Roadmap would not be the well-thought out and strategic body of work it evolved into under their direction. We appreciate their individual and collective contributions and are pleased to recognize the Roadmap Advisory Group as the recipients of this year’s America Makes Distinguished Collaborator Award.”

The Roadmap Advisory Group participants honored with the 2015 Distinguished Collaborator Award are:

• Chair – Dr. Teresa Clement (Raytheon)

• Pedro Gonzalez (Northrop Grumman)

• Dr. Federico Sciammarella (Northern Illinois University)

• Craig Brice (Lockheed Martin)

• Dr. Shawn Moylan (NIST)

• Dr. Emily Fehrman Cory (AFRL)

• Chris Holshouser (Stratasys)

• Tim Caffrey (Wohlers Associates)

• Tim Shinbara (AMT)

• Brennon White (Johnson Controls)

• Dr. Ted Reutzel (Penn State ARL)

• Dr. Carolyn Seepersad (University of Texas – Austin)

The America Makes Distinguished Collaborator Award was established last year to recognize individuals or organizations with exceptional commitment and dedication to advancing additive manufacturing technology, practices, and innovation in the manufacturing industry by building effective collaborative relationships with academia, government, and industry, and contributing to the mission of America Makes.

America Makes Distinguished Collaborator Award recipients are presented with an award of an artistic rendering of an American Badger and a Coyote, a symbolic representation of the collaborative association these two animal foes have forged.
